Grateful Greetings, July 4, 2026
Every good father hopes to leave his children something of lasting value. He works, sacrifices, teaches, and plans for a future he knows he may never fully see. He plants trees whose shade others will enjoy and builds bridges others will one day cross.
In that sense, America's Founding Fathers were engaged in one of the greatest acts of fatherhood in history. They envisioned a nation where liberty could flourish for generations yet unborn. As they pledged "their Lives, their Fortunes and their sacred Honor," they understood the risks. Many endured hardship, financial loss, separation from family, injury, imprisonment, and the uncertainty of war. Yet they persevered because they believed freedom, self government, and human dignity were gifts worth preserving and passing on.
Two hundred fifty years later, we continue to benefit from their courage, wisdom, and sacrifice.
This theme is personal to me, especially this year. My grandfather passed this July Fourth tradition to my father, and my father passed it to me. Like all fathers, they invested in something they hoped would outlive them. Their example reminds me that our greatest legacy is not what we accumulate, but the values, care, wisdom, and hope we faithfully pass forward to our children and future generations.
As we celebrate Independence Day, may we remember with gratitude the fathers who shaped our nation, the fathers who shaped our lives, and the responsibility we each share to preserve and pass on the blessings of freedom. We pray for fathers everywhere as they undertake the sacred task of building a future where their children, and generations to come, can flourish.
In appreciation of your friendship,
