Greetings, July 4, 2004
The American Revolution began an experiment in freedom and the world will never again be the same. Some take freedom for granted. Others give thanks for those who preserved it in the past. Today we are called to action to be the defenders of freedom, not just as a nation, but as individuals. D. K. Webb in his book I Pledge Allegiance...A Recommitment to America says, "The strength of our numbers begins with the solitary commitment of each individual - each patriot - determining in his or her heart to become an integral part of something bigger than self."
President Eisenhower expressed the view that we, as Americans, both as a nation and individually, must never value priviledge more than responsibilities. for if we lose one we will lose them both. Our RESPONSIBILITY in 2004 is to be sure that the "new idea" of freedom grows in a manner consistent with the values of trust, integrity, and stewardship. On this 4th of July, pray for freedom and the peace of the world. |
