Grateful Greetings, July 4, 1996
"God, give us People!" and such were the men and women who founded our great and free nation.
Abagail Adams: "Is it possible that he whom no moral obligations bind can have any real Good Will towards Men?"...The scripture tells us "righteousness exalteth a nation."
Abraham Lincoln: "We have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God...and we have vainly imagined...that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own."
Thomas Jefferson: "Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that they are a gift of God?"
John Adams: "Our Constitution was designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other.
George Washington (A prayer): "Let my heart, therefore, gracious God, be so affected with the glory and majesty of (Thine honor) that I may not do mine own work, but wait on Thee and discharge these weighty duties which Thou requirest of me..." |
