Grateful Greetings July 4, 1987
On September 17th of this year, we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the signing of our Constitution - the greatest political document ever devised for freedom. It is also the 20th year for Grateful Greetings, wherein we have tried to highlight our blessings and responsibilities in this land of freedom under God.
You may recall our Grateful Greetings July 4, 1976, the 200th anniversary of the signing of our Declaration of Independence. On that occasion we posed the question "They signed for us and pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor. Will we sign for freedom in 1976?" For eleven years we have sought ways we can "sign" for freedom under God. We offer "The American Credo" as a pragmatic way each responsible citizen can "sign" for freedom so it will be passed intact to succeeding generations.
Freedom has always been maintained by the INDIVIDUAL who knows that if you have nothing worth dying for, you have nothing worth living for. INDIVIDUALS sign for freedom by their "exemplary conduct" in courage, integrity, judgment, dedication, perseverance and gratefulness to God for all the INDIVIDUALS of the past and present who have "signed" for them.
